Hi, this is Anthony Saenz, and you're listening to the Blazers Balcony with Brooke Oldsendam and Casey Holdo. Greetings, Mr. Fans, and welcome to the Blazers Balcony, episode 134 of the Blazers Balcony, sponsored by Spirit Mountain Casino. Yeah, Spirit Mountain. Elevator game. Spirit Mountain Casino. Let's go. I'm Casey. She's Brooke. Hi, Brooke. Hi. How's it going? It's good. It's good. You made me a breakfast sandwich. That's so nice because I'm hosting. Well, it's at my house because I didn't do a very good job of hosting. I mean, we're here at your house, Ergo. You are hosting. I guess I am. And so that was nice of you to say that you were bringing our breakfast sandwich. Yeah. That was pretty sweet. Knowing full well that you wouldn't eat it. No, I'm going to eat it. I know you're going to eat it eventually, but I knew you wouldn't eat it. No, no. I didn't eat it after. But you made it yourself, homie, and that's a wonderful way to start the day. Back-to-back games. So, yeah. I'm thrilled to have you here. And let's get this ball rolling. Well, it's good to see you, Brooke. It's good to be back home for me for a while. Yeah, exactly. No, Casey is leaving me high and dry. I think we're already playing forward to the next trip, which just goes to show kind of how difficult of an early season schedule the trouble I just have, at least in terms of how much we're bouncing around here. But before then, as Brooke mentioned, plenty of work to do here in Portland, a four-game homestand, getting off to a very rough start with a very disappointing loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, 134-89 Sunday night at Moda Center. And as I'm sure you've probably already heard, you know, Chauncey Billups coming out after the game and really kind of letting the team have it a bit, saying, you know, that it's not acceptable and embarrassing and throwing in some swears here and there. And the word loser getting peppered throughout the conversation, which, you know, I don't know how much we need to necessarily dwell on it. But just, you know, I felt like he kind of said what needed to be said. Like it was a, as we've talked about this season and as we will very likely continue to talk about, you know, the Blazers are, you know, wins and losses are going to, or wins at least this season are going to be tough particularly early on in the season. But you can control the way that you approach games and, you know, the effort that you bring to a game. And it just did not seem like they brought the kind of effort or intensity that you need in order to just play a style of basketball that is acceptable for your fans. You know, particularly when we're at home against Dave Grizzlies team that was, you know, very shorthanded and it wasn't even a game. So, uh, Chancey comes out and really, again, let's kind of let it be known where, where he's at in terms of, of kind of the effort and what's acceptable and what's not. Which on one hand, I'm glad to hear it. On the other hand, it's like we're 11 games in. So like you would hope that you wouldn't have to kind of go there already. But, um, you know, uh, it could be an inflection point for the team. I think something that, you know, uh, we'll see in these upcoming games, as Brooke mentioned, uh, back to back versus the Timberwolves on Tuesday and Wednesday, the first game on Tuesday, which is today actually being the Emirates cup game. So, um, if nothing else, different courts tonight, Brooke, uh, very nice. One of the best, uh, Emirates cup courts. I would say very nice. We showed them, uh, putting it like sped up. Yeah. The, the time lapse. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I like those things. Uh, and then a game versus the, the Hawks on Sunday at three o'clock start time. We have a lot of those this year. Do we on, on Sunday? Yeah. Shout out to the three o'clock start times on Sunday. Uh, that reminds me, I have to tell Dustin that I can't come to brunch on Sunday then. Sorry, Dustin. Dustin, if you're listening to this, which we're not, um, I guess I'm not going to be able to make it for a football and brunch on Sunday. But, you know, we'll do it again another time. Uh, which is what I'm using this podcast for now. It's just delivered messages to people that I should be texting. So you don't have to call or text. It makes perfect sense. It's a, it's a good use of everybody's time. Uh, so, so yeah. So I, I think we'll, we'll see this week kind of how the, the team responds to kind of the stuff that Chauncey said both. I mean, you know, and if that's the stuff that Chauncey was saying, you know, in public, in the press conference, you can figure that what he was saying in the locker room and private was, uh, probably in excess of that. And then, uh, the team had a practice on Monday. I, I don't think they were probably initially going to have a practice on Monday, but then with the way things went on Sunday, I think, you know, you got to get back in the gym at that point. So, uh, and a number of players talked about kind of what the message was. We, we talked to, to Robin, to money and, and Donovan after that. And I, I felt like, you know, I've done this long enough. You walk into a gym, I feel like you can kind of like feel a little bit kind of what, what the vibe is. And like, if I've definitely walked into gyms have been like, yeah, what's, uh, what's, what's going on here? I didn't get that sense on Monday. Um, and, and particularly too, when you, when you play as bad as they did on Sunday and when you go as hard as you did in the press conference, I think everyone kind of knows what it is at that point. It's like, no one can show up and be like, wait, what are you mad about? Or like, what's, what's, what's going on? It's like, I think everyone at that point is like, yeah, we probably got some things we need to, to address here. Yeah, no, I agree. Uh, and also, you know, I think when a, when a coach or a head coach after a game like that, you know, says those sorts of things, you're right. It's, it's to get, it's to get a reaction. You don't say that just to say it. Like he would like to, his guys to know, like, it's unacceptable. And you have the NBA cup two games later and there's, you know, something a little extra with that. So I guess like the timing, I, I, I understand it. We're like, okay, we need to bounce back and let's look at it like an opportunity on a Tuesday to see how they react, how they respond to it. Because Chauncey is very even keeled, you know, he's, he's not, not too high, too low. So when he says the, when he says things that are maybe, I don't know that you don't hear him say often or, you know, getting on his guys, like that's, there's a purpose behind it. You know, there, he's just, just throwing those things around. He wants, you know, his guys to know that this is not, this is not who we are. He's, I believe he said that exactly. This is not the team that we are. This isn't who we are. So he wants a reaction. And that was a tough game. You know, it was kind of like, you know, in the fourth quarter, I was, I will, I have got to give a huge shout out to our fans. They stayed for, I mean, a lot of them stayed the whole time. I was shocked how many people were still there. They were still there. I mean, when I was walking up to do the post-game show, they're all walking out on, and they, I mean, they, they're, they're just happy that team's home. They get to go to games. So like, they were still like, and it's a Sunday game too. So, you know, like you bring your family, the kids are there. Like, so it's, that's a bummer. But I mean, like, but I agree. Like I was, I was surprised how many people stuck around, but for me, it was also like, and I mentioned this on this other podcast that I do that no one listens to. That like, I, I don't think I've ever heard our crowd cheering for the other team and not just for the other team. I mean, that happens, but for the other team's end of the bench guys, which is. Boban. I can think of Boban maybe. Yeah. And it is kind of like a, that is kind of thing. And so, you know, the, the Grizzlies do have a, a young five, nine point guard. So, you know, like there's five, eight, you know, I was, I was giving him a little, a little, a little, a little inflation. Yes. Yes. The Yuki Kamarara, uh, Kawa Mura. Sorry. Yuki. I apologize for that. And Yuki, I can't make brunch this Sunday. I'm sorry. Yeah. No, Brooke's not going to be able to make it to your, to your bunch. So I guess he, uh, I guess he's big into jelly beans. Okay. I saw a video where like, uh, they were asked in the locker room about the jelly beans that Yuki hands out, I guess. He hands them out. Oh. Well, he gives them to people. Yeah. Like on the locker room. And I guess they're like better than your average jelly beans. Wow. I don't like jelly beans in general. So I'm a bit cool on jelly beans myself actually. So, uh, but I, I'd never heard kind of that a much kind of, I mean, one, I'm glad that the fans had something to pay attention to. Um, but you know, as someone who works for the team and, you know, take some pride and, you know, what the team means to people, that's, uh, that was tough. Like, it was just like, we're the other team is what people are here to see right now. And not even the other team's best players. Like, again, like you come to see John Moran. Cause it's like, Oh Jesus, John Moran, John Moran wasn't playing. Like this is like their end of the bench guys who are just working through and trying to get like your, your, it's like, it was like, you know, how the team cheers for the end of the bench guys at the end of the game. It's like, that's what the entire arena was doing, which again, like that's not the fans fault. It's like, good. I'm glad they were able to drive something of value and interest out of it. But like, it's, it's concerning to see, I would say. You know, I hadn't, I hadn't seen that before either, but at the same time I was like, go ahead. No, no. And again, I want to make it very clear. Like that is fine for people to do that. It's not fine to create an environment in which people are like, well, I guess that's what we're cheering for now. Like that, that's, that's what I'm saying. No, that's, and that's actually when I headed up to the post game show, I was like, okay, I think I'm going to go up. I'm just going to go up and get ready for the post game show. Um, yeah, it was, it was a rough night. It was, and you have one, you have a one a year, you know? And that should be said. First game back after a long road trip. I'm tired. I know you're tired. They ended on a back to back, uh, too long. I mean, again, I'm not making excuses, but when you consider the situation, like it, it was ripe for something like that to happen. You, you lose back to back games to the Spurs and the Timberwolves and you lose to the Timberwolves pretty bad. Again, it's back to back San Antonio to Minneapolis, not a short flight, Minneapolis to Portland. Not a short flight. We get in late. You basically. Try to keep sleep on Saturday. Try to catch up on Saturday. Get right back to work on Sunday. And you know, that's the league and it's early in the season. So like, you know, you, that's, that's what you signed up for. But, and it's the last game after, or the first game back after a long trip was always, you know, like a, it's not even a trap game. It's just a tough game. It's still not acceptable for it to roll that way. But like, if, if it was going to happen, like that's definitely, I think to your point, Brooke, a game and it would happen. Yeah. So, you know, that we always talk about it though. There's next game up and here we are, you know, getting ready for Tuesday night's game. And I'm just interested to see how the guys come out and, and how they respond because they, they, you know, they, they don't, they don't want to disappoint Chauncey. They don't disappoint themselves. They don't want to disappoint the fans. It was just kind of a comedy of errors. That's not really what I'm trying to say, but like, it was like a situation where, okay, like you said, it's ripe for, for it. Like I was like, okay, I, if there was going to be a night that it was probably going to feel like this, I can see why it's this night. But you can't let it turn into numerous nights. You have to have a bounce back game. I'm not saying they have to go out and beat Minnesota by 20, but be in the game, you know, show, show your effort and energy early. So like, listen, we're not going to do this again, you know, and then just compete. That's all that the coaching staff wants of them is to compete and bring that energy and effort. And if they do that and comes up in a loss, at least, you know, they're competing and they are showing the team that, that like Chauncey said, that they are, because these guys work hard. You know, they're scrappy team there. They want to win. They want to win. And they like playing with each other and they want to give the fans, you know, great basketball. So we'll see. Yeah. We'll see how they come out tonight. Yeah. And I would just say too, that like our, our fans don't boo losses. Like you can lose. It's not great. I mean, you want to win, but like if you lose and you tried hard and like, we could see that, like you were out there doing your God's honest best and all right, they don't boo when, again, just because you're not playing well, like you have to be doing something in excess of just poor play to get booed. Yeah. And they got booed on Sunday. And again, like, I don't, I don't fault our fans one bit for that because it's like, that's, they, they don't do that just because like, they're not a, they're not a fickle fan base. It's like, Hey, screw these guys. Like they, they stick with it for the most part. They do. If when they see something like that and that's the response, you gotta, you gotta take that to heart. The other, the, one of the, the bummer things about that game too, I thought is like, you know, further down the list was just that like, it should have been a fun return for the team because you get both Shaden Sharp and Robert Williams back. And it's like, that's, those are two guys that fans have been really interested in seeing on the court for a while now, particularly a guy in Shaden who like a lot of people, myself included, think is, you know, really kind of a, a key to this team. Like what they're going to be able to do going forward. If they're going to get better in any kind of quicker timeframe, I think that Shaden has to be a player who's going to be a part of that. And so you wanted to come and see like Shaden and Rob play, you know, like, and so for it to go the way that it went, that, that makes it even more of a bummer. But, you know, we should still talk about those guys coming back and, you know, Shaden did start in, in that game. And, you know, that was the first time they changed the starting lineup. Yep. Which also you change the starting lineup and you have a performance like that. Scratch your head a little bit, but I can let other people theorize about why that might be. But, you know, getting those guys back and for the first time really being almost completely healthy to Matisse, very close to being back as well. You know, like, so there, there is an environment or at least it's setting up to which like if they could kind of get some things squared away or like at least like kind of figure out interpersonally maybe what's going on. Like they can come out and have some good games and make some progress. And I think that's what people want to see this year is like show me that we're, we're going somewhere. Like these things that we're doing now are going to pay off in the future and let me see it. Like show me kind of the idea. And I think particularly Shaden is a big part of that idea, but also like Rob too. And just the, what he brings to a team from a leadership perspective and from a, from a personality perspective, the fact that now he's playing, like he can kind of step in and talk more and take more of a role in that. And also like, as we saw in the Timberwolves game, like the, the one good part of that Timberwolves game, I would say was Rob came out and played frigging great. Like he was awesome. And like a style of play that is very pleasant to watch play. And so, you know, I'm hoping that if nothing else, like come out and just perform better or just have a better effort. So we can see these guys and be like, Hey, look at that. Like see what the team looks like when they are fully healthy. And when they have some of the pieces that you assume again, are going to be guys going forward that they're going to kind of pin some hopes to. So, you know, I, I'm hopeful that, that, you know, these three games at home before they head out and, you know, they do have three days off. You know, they got, I think what Thursday, Friday, Saturday, you know, it gives you a chance to get into the gym and maybe get some things figured out though. I mean, again, I think that some of the things this team is going through right now, I don't think it's about like practice time, you know, like it's something else is going on there. So like, whatever that is, like, let's get it figured out. Hopefully, you know, the practice on Monday allowed them to do that a little bit and, you know, let us come out and see what Shaden looks like, you know, like, and get a good sense of like Ant and Shaden and Scoot and Donovan and Jeremy and Tumani and like all these guys that like, you know, we, we've wanted to kind of see together and see how they, how they fit. Like create an environment where we can watch that happen, you know, like, and the way to do that is to go out and to, to put forth a quality effort. And you can, again, even if you're going to lose, like you can still see those things if you're bringing the right approach to the game. Absolutely. And Rob coming back was a treat. I mean, also Shaden, obviously, but like coach mentioned it, that Rob is more of a leader than you might, than you might think in the locker room. Like he's not like a boisterous out there yelling and stuff like that, but he's a guy that like everybody respects, likes, wants to be around. And so he was all, all, he can still be that leader when you're not playing, but it's a whole different ball game when you're out there. Yeah. I mean, he did his best, but to have him around the team and out there, just like people were, the team was like lit up when that game, when Rob came out and was just playing like he did. And so it's contagious, you know? So I agree. Fans have been wanting to see Rob play for a year, literally. And give that, give them the opportunity to see him have quality minutes and Shaden back. I think Shaden's going to maybe take a little while for, I guess, him to get used to the starting spot too, if that remains. It might be. I mean, I was surprised at how good Shaden looked right out of the gate. He does, he does. But I, to your point, it's, I think when he comes off the bench, you can just kind of come out and kind of do whatever. Yeah. You're right. It's a different, it's a different animal when you're, when you're out there with the starting lineup. And it, you know, I mean, nothing in that Grizzlies game looked good, but it, it definitely, it looked a little wonkier than it looked when he was playing, particularly versus the Spurs and, you know, versus Timberwolves. Although second out of back-to-back after you haven't been playing for a while. So that's a tough one. That's true. That's true. But yeah, you're right. Just all the fans want to see is the effort. And then you're right. They do not boo losses. It's just effort and getting out there. And I mean, I'm, I, we go to, we go to every arena. We listen to every fan base and I don't think there's a fan base that roots harder or louder for just hustle plays. That's all they want to see. Like that, that's just an example of our fan base. Like a hustle play where guys diving out of bounds, that's going to get just as many, you know, that's as big a round of applause. As a sky high dunk, you know, in my opinion. And so that's, that's all they want to see. So I have a, I have a good feeling. I think they're going to, they're going to react well. I hope so. And, you know, in the, not to reference again, the other podcasts I do, but when I, I had an interview with Robert Williams. I remember. In a recent one. And you were actually. Yeah. We were just side by side interviewing. Yeah. Yeah. It was, it was fun. You know, Robert even kind of, he, he implied that he was like, you know, we probably, we got some stuff we got to work through that. It's going to probably be pretty tough. And, you know, we can come out of the other end of it, but like, we're going to have to, we're going to have to address some things. And that was, that was before the Spurs game. So like, to your point about kind of his leadership qualities already recognizing like, yeah, we, we got some, we got some problems here. We probably need to, to talk about. And again, like what that is, again, I don't, I don't think it's so much style of play. I think it's, I think they've got some stuff in the locker room. Maybe they got to, they got to hash through. The other thing I want to say about Robert coming back, especially is that like, you know, there's a Rob's out for literally an entire year, 366, 67 days. Like that's a hard rehabilitation, particularly for a guy like Robert has had multiple injuries, goes into it knowing like, man, this is going to, this is going to suck. Like this is going to take a long time. It's going to be a lot of work. I'm not going to be able to even play for over a year. Like, so you gotta, you gotta have a motivation for, for getting through that. That is kind of, it's an excess of just your general kind of like coming out and playing. And what I'm saying is that, you know, you got Rob working his ass off to get back onto the, onto the court, you know, fighting through injury. And then you come back and like, this is what you're greeted with is like, that's kind of effort that, that I've worked my ass off to get back into this team. And like, and this is what we're going to do. Like I spent all these hours rehabilitating and going under the knife and, you know, not being mobile and, you know, having to, to be away from the team and, and, you know, having to sacrifice some things. And we're going to come out and get blown out by 40 to the second line of the Memphis Grizzlies. Like what, what, huh? And so for me, it's like, at least honor, like the guys who are out there, like putting themselves on the line to get, to play basketball, you know, and granted, you know, they're well-paid. Like, like it's a good life injured or not. So like, I'm not saying that it's like, whoa, is anybody, but like just the idea that like, Hey, if I'm going to put in this kind of effort to get myself back out there, like, can we at least conduct ourselves in a way that is honorable? You know, like, and that's kind of what I was thinking when I, I mean, I don't even think Rob played in that game because Rob too, is also not the kind of guy where it's like, you don't send Rob Williams in in a blowout, you know, like he's not an end of your bench guy. Like, right. That's it. It's kind of, I think sometimes people like just assume if you're not playing that, like, you're going to get in late in the games, if it's a blowout either way, it's like not for vets. Like it's different for them. Like that's not, that's not a good thing for them. Like they, they don't take that as like, ah, there's a chance for me to get some work in. It's like, no, this is, they won't say disrespectful, but it's like, this is not where I'm at. I've seen some vets literally tell their coaches. They will not go in. And that's why like late in the game, they're not going to send in Rob because again, it's again, disrespectful is not the right word, but it's not the proper use of his time and effort. So create an environment where you are going to use that, that effort properly. That's, that's what I'm saying. Gotcha. So hopefully we'll, we'll see that. And, uh, yeah, like, and again, like some body language stuff too. Like some of these guys, like you can just see it on them right now. Like guys stiffen up like where it's too early. Your lives are too good. Even when things aren't going especially well, like buck up guys, like it, come on. And again, especially when like I, and I, I mentioned this too. Like, I really appreciate that Chauncey talked about fans in his comments because it's like, look, you want to like, you don't, you don't want to listen to what I'm trying to get you to do fine. Like don't disrespect the people that are showing up and paying here. Like that's again, like that cannot happen. Like this is, these people are literally working so they can watch us play. And this is what we're going to do. Like have some, have some honor for, for their effort. Like that's so, yeah, I guess, I guess that's probably a good thing. Good place to leave that. Hopefully we'll see, we'll see some of the better. Hopefully. Yeah. Well, you know, what is better? What's that? Spirit Mountain Casino. Oh, yes, it is. Highway 18. Yeah. Where, right before you get to Spirit Mountain Casino, if you're coming from Portland, you can see the, all right. Do you see your, your billboard from that side or is it, you know, your, your billboard is going. It's going back. Yeah. So, so you'll see the backside of Brooks billboard on your way to Spirit Mountain. If you're coming from Portland, though, if you're coming South, if you're coming from, from the coast, you will see it on the, well, I guess, I guess you would only see it when you were coming back to Portland. Yes. But either way, Spirit Mountain Casino and Brook Olsen Dam in, in Grand Ronde, Highway 18, the place to elevate your game. Spirit Mountain Casino features thousands, 2000, even more than 2000 of the latest slots, including fan favorites like Buffalo, Cleopatra, and Zeus. Whether you're in traditional slots or progressive slots, Spirit Mountain Casino is a place to elevate your game. Brook Olsen Dam, I know you're a big slots player. Buffalo. Give me some of your, and you have, I always appreciate too, the slots people that have like. Their favorite games. Well, not even just favorite games. I want to know what your favorite game is. Okay. But who have an approach to slots, like a, like a theory behind playing slots. I have those. So let's, let's give me, give me the, uh, the short version. Buffalo is one of my favorites. Coyote, uh, Coyote Moon is another one. The best one I ever, ever had was in Milwaukee. It was Dolly Parton and it was seasonal and she's not there anymore. And that Dolly won me hundreds of dollars, but no Coyote Moon and, uh, and the Buffalo are my two favorites. Um, I also like, what's the one? It's like, Oh, it's red. I can see it right now. It's red with yellow stripes through it. It's like three words, but anyways, it'll come to me. But no, I, my approach is I often don't get, I shouldn't say this, but nevermind. I won't say that part. Um, I have to tell me what, what, what I was going to say is sometimes I use my, my card, you know, like you can, you apply and not apply. You just go and get your, your player's card. Sure. Sometimes for some odd reason, I just don't like, I'm like, I don't feel like I should use it on this machine. I don't know why it's a feeling because you earn points. Like you should use it everywhere you go. Some people have, you know, conspiracy theories or where it's clocking you. I don't think that's true. But in my mind, sometimes I'm like, I don't think I'm going to put it in this, this machine. And I don't. And sometimes I, sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. That's not really my number one thing. That's like a number 10, but I do like to, if I've, if I'm hot on like on a, uh, like a, just like killing it on a heater, on a heater, uh, I will then check out of that heater and go to another, like I move around a lot. I don't like I just, because it's hot doesn't mean it's going to stay hot. So yeah. So you don't, you don't, you don't like ride it out. You, you, you would get out well. I get out early and then go to another machine. And I also do fall prey to when a lot of people are playing the same game, you know, like why is everyone playing that game? And that means I should be playing that game. Like, so I wait, I just stock until one person gets up. And then again, I can't remember how well I do at those on those ones, but I, I just have like, I'm like a, an animal when I get in there. Like I have like, you know what I mean? I have a plan and then I have like theories and I'm like watching everyone watching all the machine. It's a, it's an experience for me. I feel like you consistently make money. I do pretty well. So I guess that that's where I would, the totality of that is I just feel like you win money playing slots. Well, Bruce and I did not win money when we went on this last road trip, but we didn't play slots. You weren't anywhere at Spirit Mountain. We were not at Spirit Mountain. That's why we played Blackjacket. We were at a different casino, which, you know, on the road, you know, the casino time is, is some, I know you've won there before. I have. But not, not this time. And I think maybe, maybe they, do you think other casinos, like, do you think they know that we're associated with Spirit Mountain Casino? Therefore, you guys don't, don't let them win anything. I don't know about that. But I also feel like Sundays is the big winning day for me. Interesting. And I don't know if this is true. The Lord's Day. The Lord's Day. Yeah. I don't know if this is true, but I heard it from maybe my mom. I don't know if this is true that like they have to give out a certain amount. Like you've told me this theory before. So I think Sunday's the last day and then it starts, the week starts. Yeah, I don't know. I don't think that's true. I don't know if that's true. So that was true when they, when they closed, because we're in Vegas, you told me this, when we were there for Summer League this year, they closed the Mirage. Oh, yeah. And it was one of the, and to that point, they're like, yeah, those progressives, I think they have to pay out what they take in. And so when it got to the end, they were like, hey, we have X amount of dollars that like we have to distribute because we're shutting this thing down. Oh, wow. And, and so, and so Bruce and I went because of that exact reason. And it was slammed with people. So I'm like, I guarantee someone was like, hey, what if, what if we tell everyone we have to give away? And then they're going to come in. Very smart. And, but also at that point too, it's like, well, you're going out there. The shop's closed. That's true. So yeah. That's true. It was like the equivalent of a fire sale. Yes. Like everything must go. Everything must go. Like I would love to take a slot machine home too. That'd be super fun. That would be really fun. I would love that. We had a chinko machine when I was a kid. Oh. I loved that thing. That does sound fun. Yeah. We had a Papa Shot. Different. Different. Yeah. There should be a money Papa Shot game though. Have we talked about that? No. Yeah. There should be like a gambling version of Papa Shot. Yeah. It could take skill. Spirit Mountain Casino. Yeah. You actually earn your money. We'll get into development. Yeah. On that. But yes. Check out Spirit Mountain Casino. Highway 18. Grand Ron. Elevator game. It's fantastic. That's also where they have the smiley face on March Mountain. Oh yes. I can see it right now. Which I don't know if it's still there or not. I make that drive a lot. I think it's still there. I used to make that drive a lot. And yeah. So I feel like the last time I went by I couldn't really see it very well. So I feel like maybe it's grown out at this point. We'll have someone text us. Yeah. Well when we go down to Spirit Mountain Casino. Yes. Which we'll be doing some live shows at Spirit Mountain Casino this year. We can do an update from there. We'll update you. Yes. We'll do an outdoor podcast next to the smiley face and then go gamble all night long. So we could like – yeah, we could go crab and then go to Spirit Mountain. Yes. All the things. And play some fun games. Yeah. I always gas up at Spirit Mountain Casino too. Oh. That's my dedicated – Gas stop. Highway 18 gas station. That's a good plug. It's a good one too. I believe you. Yeah. Also, we need to give Pamela, the cupcake queen, a shout out before I forget. Since we are doing some business here, shout out to Pamela, the cupcake queen. She dropped off a couple of cupcakes for Brooke and I. Was unnecessary, but boy. Very nice. I mean, no – I'm being completely honest here. Easily the best cupcake I've ever had. Like not even close. And Casey is the pastry baked good queen. I have some baked good pastry knowledge. Yes, you do. I'm not novice. I'm not a young man in this game. No, you are a seasoned vet. You're not coming off the bench at the end of the game. No. No. For any cupcake. I'm a starting pastry. No, Pamela, the cupcake queen. She is on Facebook and Instagram. I'm looking at this now. Look up cupcake queen 52 on Facebook and cupcake zero queen on Instagram. Backslash. That's a lot of information. But cupcake queen. Her name is Pamela. Maybe we should tweet out her. I can put this in the show notes too. Okay. Show notes. But yeah, anyways, I gave her my – I gave – well, actually, I gave Daryl my – you're doing great, sweetie, who's a deliverer of the cupcakes. So I – I'll finish off because I had a – No, I'm done. Well, I – so Daryl – Daryl was like, hey, Casey, I've got something for you. And I had just told someone the story about Daryl cutting down the trees after the ice storm. And I thought that's what he was referencing. And I was like, oh, Daryl, that's nice. But I was like, you know, you don't need to give me anything. Like – and in my head, I was like, did I talk about that on the podcast? I was like – Yes, you did. Oh, Daryl. Like, thanks, dude. And then he comes out with cupcakes. And I was like, wait, what? And he was like, yeah, she's my neighbor. And I was like, oh, like – Yeah, I knew that. I thought it was – I thought Daryl was giving me something for talking up Daryl. Oh, no, no. And then when it was cupcakes for talking up Pam, I mean – Makes sense. I like Daryl, but like that's a better gift. Yeah, no, they're great. I had the – you and I both had the pecan one the other night. That's what Daryl brought us from Pamela, and it was divine. Absolutely. So do you think that like – and so I texted Brooke about this. So do you think she puts those crunchy things – how does she get those onto the – in between the cake and the paper? Because the paper is like singed to it, right? So like you would have to do it before. You have to do it before, and I think it's like crumbles with butter, and so it's – then you bake that first, and then you put the stuff on top. I'm just guessing. I'm thinking of making like a cheesecake, and you put the crumble with the melted butter and whatever base your crust is, and then I think you bake that for a little while until that hardens a little bit, and then you put the stuff on top. Brooke is just completely spitballing. Totally. I'm admitting it. Either way, I just want to say I've never – it's such a great idea to put something in between like the cake and the paper, and it's got these little crunchy braline bits. Yeah. It's delicious. Fantastic. Nice job. And that's what makes them good is like when someone can take a different – Elevate it. Take on it. Exactly. Like anyone can – not anyone, but you can make something like good. But like when you have like a different – when you add something to it that makes it better, that elevates it. Yes. As you elevate your game at Spirit Mount Casino, you elevate the cupcake game with Pam, the cupcake queen. You know, it really – it brings it to a different level that is – it's nice. And speaking of elevating, there's also ways to not elevate, and that's what I did last night when I made my king cake baby cake. So I saw that. I thought you were just making a corn cake. No, that was the – That was the king cake. Okay. It was – Yeah. How did it go? Not well because I thought it was – it came in a box. I got it for Theo when we were in New Orleans. I was like, this will be a fun thing for us to do together. Well, he's like, Mom, are you going to make that – we're going to make that cake? I was like, oh, yeah. Well, it's only going to take 15 minutes. I'll get started on it. Come in. He's watching football. So I was like, come in a little bit. I'll get started. I'm reading the back. It is like a novel. There's a packet of yeast involved. There's a packet of something else involved. There's four different packets that you have to put in at certain times, and then you have to let it sit and let it rise. The whole thing took me two hours, and then I realized I didn't have the bunt pan that it required for it. So then I had to put it just in a casserole dish. I tried to – not at all. I tried to twist it to be in a circle, and it just all came together anyways. I don't think I let it rest long enough, so it just tasted like – it wasn't good. It was not good. Yeasted cake is – that can be a difficult bake anyways. It was terrible. Yeah. Yeasted cake can – anytime you add yeast to it, you're rolling dice a little bit, particularly if it comes in a mix. I know. Because sometimes that yeast is old, and yeast – I hope that wasn't old. I just bought it. I didn't think about that. But it might have been in a box for a while. Who's to say? And also, without a bunt pan, the cake has to – it literally crawls up the bunt pan, which is why you don't grease a bunt pan, because you want the cake to actually use it. So if you didn't have that – No. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. It's going to be terrible. And then it gets worse. So then Theo tried it. He's like, this doesn't taste very good. I was like, I know. I'm really sorry. This was a total bust. But I had a piece. My dad did. Theo. And none of us got the baby, right? It's just a little tiny baby. That's the whole thing about this. That's why this cake is famous, because there's a little tiny plastic baby in there. If you get it, you have good luck, good fortune. I don't know. Or you choke on it. Or you choke on it. Choke on a tiny baby. And so I thought I was mom of the year this morning. I made his lunch last night, and I found – like I mushed around, because no one's going to eat the rest of this cake. So I found the part with the baby in it. I rolled it up. I was going to put a little stick on it and make it like a cake pop. Couldn't find a stick. So essentially just a ball of cake. But the baby was in it. And I wrapped it up in foil. And on our way to school this morning, he's like, what's in my lunch, mom? And I was like, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And a surprise. He's like – and I should have known. I should have never said that, because he doesn't like – he's just like me. I don't like surprises. I want to know everything. Just tell me. I used to open up every Christmas present and rewrap it. Like I don't want any surprises. So I go, well, no, it's just going to be a surprise for lunch. He's like, mom, just tell me. I was like, no, it's not. After going back five minutes, I was like, fine. And then my dad, he goes, is it the baby? I was like, dad. And I was like, yes. And he goes, I don't want that for my lunch. I go, but it's going to be fun. Like you'll find the baby. And he's like, but that cake's not good. I was like, I know. He goes like – and then it was like silent for a little bit. He goes, I'll be the only kid with no dessert. I was like, golly. I was like – I went to all this trouble thinking it was the cutest, most fun thing. And he was going to open it at lunch and everyone was like, wow, there's a baby in your cake. And he was already upset after he found out that he was not going to have dessert right now. Poor kid. He's tough to please. He is tough to please. I got a little bad at it about it. And I said, we need to be grateful. You know how many kids don't even not have dessert? And I was going to like not to get too – I was a poor kid growing up. But Theo, the school lunch is provided to you when you can't afford to have one. There's no dessert in that lunch either, my guy. No, we had a full-blown talk about it. I said, you know, be grateful, appreciate it. You have more than most and a lot of kids are hungry. We had the whole – I mean – You really went in. I really went in. I know so much so that when I dropped him off, I was still like upset about it. And so I was like, I will be mad at myself all day if this is how we – like I say goodbye to him. So I rolled down the window even though he doesn't like that. Like, you know, he doesn't like to be talked to. Somebody rules. I know. And I was like, Theo. And I was like – I just waved. I was like, I love you. And he's like, gave me a wave and nodded. And my dad was like, I'm glad you did that. You'd be mad at yourself all day. I was like, yeah, that's true. I would have been not mad at myself but just like unsettled because, you know, you don't want to not say goodbye in a nice way. And so we reconciled it. But it was a lesson this morning. And here I am just thinking it's going to be the most fun thing. He's going to love it. Nope. And I had to dig through that in my new nails to find that baby. I can tell by – I obviously know you well enough now to know that like I can – I've been Theo in this situation before. So I can feel the – You haven't been Theo for a long time. No. I've learned a few things. Like I've tried to stray away from some of those areas. So predictable. Well, you're not. It's just – Yeah. I can get sensitive. I can get sensitive. Don't even put it that way. The emotions are good. That's so funny. You're supposed to feel things. That's true. I used to. Way back when. Well, as I mentioned too, three games here in town and then hitting the road once again for a five-game road trip. And that's a little ways off. I don't have to spend too much time on that. But Thunder rockets back-to-back versus the Rockets, Grizzlies, and Pacers. And that's five games and seven nights. So, I mean, again, the schedule this year is just so – it doesn't make any sense. And the reason why I'm saying that too is because since we have these three days off here coming up, it's like – Couldn't we have – I mean, like I like the idea of having three days off in a row. But also, it's like, can we just break this up a little bit more? Yeah, I know. The coming back to Portland for one night was just crazy. Yeah, that shouldn't have happened. But, you know, that's just kind of – It's life. That's life. Well, and too, like with the – I think with the cup games as well since those are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fridays, I think. Isn't it Tuesdays and Fridays? Maybe. You probably know better. No. No, I do not. I threw to the – Guarantee you I do not know better. We had a feature on how – like explaining the NBA cup to fans. And it was the most – I mean, I'm just so curious how they thought of this or decided to have these two people. But the two people that were explaining it were like in Vegas. It was Mike – is it Michael Imperioli and Rosario Dawson? Yeah, they – I don't know. The NBA is insisting on making Michael Imperioli a thing, like – which, you know, I mean, I don't – I like the Sermon. I've been different. But I was just like those are – I mean, those are – in Rosario Dawson, like when – I haven't seen her around lately. Whatever. It was just like I wonder how they chose those two people. Yeah. That's all. I always just assume that that's like someone in the league office is like, oh, yeah, I know Michael Imperioli. Probably. Oh, yeah, no, I go to the same church as – They could have got Kelly a coin. They should have got Kelly a coin. They should have got Kelly a coin. Yeah. Actually, an NBA fan. Anyways. Reprising his role in billions. Shout out to Kelly. Shout out, Kelly. Also, we wanted to, of course, give a shout out to our friend Brian Wheeler. I know. It's hard. So we found out about his passing on the road. And we did honor him the night of that broadcast. I mean, just with Kevin and Lamar, you know, talking a little bit because it just – we just found out right before the game. And then we had a nice tribute. Shout out to the Trailblazers. I had a really nice tribute to him on the Jumbotron. Dave Barberas made a nice – put together a nice audio cut. Yes, he did. Yes, he did. And I called Dave Barberas that day and made sure he was okay because he worked with wheels very closely. And, yeah, it was very sad. And just to hear those calls again, like it's like, wow. I mean, you forget. I don't want to say you forget how amazing of a broadcaster he was. But to go back and listen to it again and, like, be reminded. Just incredible talent. So that was a sad day for Blazers fans, I know. Yeah. Very, very sad. And, you know, Brian, I mean, I kept telling the story. You went to that show in Philadelphia with us, Andrew Schultz, who, again, is now, like, a huge comedian. Huge, yeah. That was always, like, wheels always wanted people to get together on the road. Like, he was always, like, super into comedy, which I know you're super into, too. And he was always way into music. Like, just in my head, like, I just have a vision of, like, wheels at the back of the plane, like, with his headphones on. Like, when I'd get onto the plane, I'd be like, oh, there's wheels in the back. And now I sit in that seat on that side of the plane, too, which makes you feel kind of weird. But, yeah, really just unfortunate. Yeah. I don't. It's just sad. Yeah. It's just sad. But, yeah, I'm glad that. So damn good at his job, too. I mean, just, again, like, just that voice. Like, it's just, like, that's why I just keep saying it. It's, like, when I think of, like, a sports broadcaster voice, it's, like, wheels is, like, he's got it. Yeah. That was his thing. Kevin threw out a boom shakalaka that night early. And, yeah, just wanted to say that, obviously. Yeah. That's sad. Wheels. Well, I think we're about out of stuff to talk about. Hopefully we'll have better things to talk about here. Do you want me to tell the King Kate baby story again in all its glory? Just kidding. No, it was good. I think we got the gist of it. Got the gist of it. Well, it was part of the road trip, you know. It was. It was. No, and we actually didn't talk about any of the road. And, actually, so that's a very good reminder, Brooke. Thank you so much. We have to do, you're doing amazing, sweetie. Oh. And I can go first because I already thought about mine a little bit. Yeah, you have to go first. I wanted to give, you're doing amazing, sweetie, to two PR staffs in the NBA. The one we started the trip with, Phoenix. And when we ended the trip with, Timberwolves, Minneapolis, Minnesota. They're still trying. Yeah, they are. And there's a lot of places now that aren't really trying a whole lot anymore. And you don't need to be like catered to necessarily, but like it's nice to be like, hey, here's the box score after the game got over. Hey, here's who is going to be available for the game tonight. Here's a one sheet on when our media availabilities are going to be. Oh, here's a nice little gift bag for you, which is in excess of what you necessarily need. But it's something that everyone used to do. And now almost no staffs do those things anymore. But we started the trip second night of back-to-back in Phoenix. They had a nice little gift for us. Like they do a very good job of kind of letting you know where everything is at. They serve a meal that is edible, which is fantastic. And also a halftime hot dogs, which is very kind of them. And I love a halftime hot dog. I ate two. Did you? I think you might have even seen me. I did see you. And I ate one. And then I was literally walking out to the court eating another one. They also had the brioche buns, too. Oh, wow. Which is always a fun time. It's exciting. And then Minnesota. They have a great staff there. Again, you get in. They had a nice little gift for us, which is not what I'm saying is the good part. It's just the fact that they're putting in the effort to try to service visiting media, which, again, a lot of places just don't do anymore. They also have a meal that is edible. They have fantastic ice cream bars there as well, which shout out to the ice cream bars. Everyone was very excited about that. Now that I'm trying not to gorge too much anymore. I just had one. Just one. Just the one. Also, you're doing amazing. We need to Bruce Ely for beating me two out of three times in pickleball when we were on this trip. Oh, yeah. You guys are all over pickleball that trip. We went from like zero to 1,000 in terms of playing pickleball on that trip. Someone said that Bruce is also like, hey, we should play this Thursday. He wants to re-up. So he won the two indoor games that we played. One in Tulane where we had to basically lie and hang dog our way into playing. On courts too that are just like we're not regulation and we're just pretty janky anyways. But like, you know, they let us in. So thank you, Tulane. Thank you to the nice co-ed girls who were at the desk that felt bad for two middle-aged dudes just standing around looking stupid. Though they'll probably also just be like, hey, these guys are scaring people off. So if we just let them in, maybe like they'll stop scaring people that are trying to come in to play. And then we played in outdoors at Trinity University. And I beat Bruce pretty good in the outdoor. But then we played indoor at the Lifetime Gym, which also shout out to, again, another shout out to the staff is that you get a free one-day pass to the Lifetime Gym, which is basically in the arena. It's an incredibly nice gym. I don't ever go to gyms because it's just not who I am. So like whenever I go to one, I'm always like, wow, this is pretty nice. And this one was especially nice. It had three indoor courts. It was super choice. Bruce beat me pretty squarely in those two. So he's the indoor champion. I'm the outdoor champion. Shout out to the Phoenix and Minnesota PR staffs. You're doing amazing, sweetie. Thank you for doing the job the way it used to be. And also, too, they also give you pizza and beer at the end of the night in Minneapolis. I did not know that. So you didn't hear me running down the hallway being like, there's pizza and beer back here. No, I didn't. Okay. So you must have already – so I went into the interview room in Champ and I think Bruce and Fernando were in there and I was like, don't forget to give you some beer. I already took two beers. I'm going to drink them. So yeah, you must have already been – You never told me. You never told me. Where was I? Because normally I would be – You must have been close somewhere. Maybe you were actually changing. Oh, that's probably. That's probably it. That's probably it. You know, shout out, too. Appreciate it. I don't know when it started. I mean, maybe last year. But this wasn't going to be my amazing sweetie, but I guess I'm going to make it that. For teams and organizations, I know we do the same thing, is having a ladies' locker room. I knew exactly what you were going to say. It is a game changer. So I think there's probably 10 of us. 10 of us ladies. And we can put our stuff there. We can change there. There's a mirror. There's usually a fridge if you have like a drink you want to put in there. There's always a bathroom. Sometimes a shower. But it's just a nice place that you can go. I mean, I can't tell you how many bathrooms, gross bathrooms I've changed in after games in my lifetime. So the fact that they do that is just huge. Go and just chill. And it's nice to just be like, catch up with the other ladies. Because like we do such different things that you're not really around each other very much. So it's nice to just be like, how's your night going? And be like, oh, that's right. That's what you do. Tell me about it. So it's a nice. Thank you for teams for giving us a place to reside. That is awesome. One thing I would say, though, I would like a place too. I'm not allowed to use the men's locker room. That's true. The idea that I'm a guy so I could use the Blazers locker room? Hell no. No. They're not big enough. Wouldn't even dream of it. No. So I would also like to have a place where I don't have to change in a gross bathroom. I wish that for you. Actually, it doesn't matter much anymore. Because since I don't wear nice clothes, there's no point. But like, so I mean, Lamar was changing in the bathroom behind the… That's true. Mostly. I have to be careful when I get on the buses at the end of the night. Because oftentimes, I'll walk and be like, oh, shoot. Because dudes are just changing on the bus. Yeah. Like, I mean, usually just their shirts. Well, I actually… No, that's not true about everything. But like, they're really careful, you know, to try to go fast. No one's like dropping full travel usually too. No, no, no. They're like in an aisle. To your point though, yeah. Like, I don't know. Maybe I'm… Like, I'll change in front of anyone too. It's like, I don't care. It's like, yeah, you're going to see me in my underwear. Get over it. Like, if I was wearing a bathing suit, it wouldn't be any different. So… But I do respect that they have that for you ladies now. Because yeah, like it's… One, like it creates an environment in which you feel like you can do your job the way you need to do it. And that's one of the whole points about, you know, being more inclusive is that, yeah, like you have to create space for everybody. And like one of the ways to do that is to give people a place to actually be at. Which is… You're right. It's very helpful. Like, you know, I always… And not really struggle. But like it's easier now too because now that they have like… One of the only few good things that happened from COVID was now they do like the press conferences and rooms. Which kind of becomes like our little de facto room in the building. Right. Which is… Yeah, it's nice to just have a place where like, yeah, I can put my bag there. Yeah. Or if I'm traveling with a plant that I've stolen from a hotel, which I bought… I wasn't going to bring it up. But I didn't steal any of them. But I definitely… The airplanes in New Orleans… I'm coming for you next time. Exactly. We're not done just yet. Our story's not over. No. You won this round, but there will be others. But yeah, it's just nice to have a place to just kind of be. And so shout out to staffs that do that too. Yes. Very nice because I always change. I mean, there was one time and I'll never forget it because I was so miserable kind of. But just more like you got to be kidding me. I always pack my backpack with my clothes I'm going to change into and a pair of shoes. And it was a couple of years ago. I can't even remember where we were. But I packed it. I went into change and I put my clothes on. I'm like, I forgot to put shoes in. So I had heels. Oh, no kidding. I had to wear a sweatsuit with heels. I don't think you're on that trip because I'm sure I would have showed you. But yeah, I'm like… I feel like that was… I mean, like if there were like those leather sweatpants, like that's… I feel like people have tried to use that. But the whole point is I like to be… I don't think it really works, but… I like to be comfortable. So I was like, okay, I guess I'm flying in heels because our luggage is already on the plane. You can't get to the luggage. It's already… I used to admonish Amara for getting on flights. I know you did. I used to admonish Amara. You have to change. You cannot… We're flying for hours. Like you're in a mini dress. Like you have to change. And we're also going to get off this plane and it's going to be 10 degrees outside. She didn't fold though. No. I mean, and shout out to you, Amara. Like you know who you are. But yeah, I was always like bring a change of clothes. And this was back again, like this is back when I was wearing suits. So yeah, you like… I'm not going to wear a suit for this four-hour flight back home. So yeah, you got to get comfortable. Now that I don't wear anything important, it's like, well, I could change from these regular pants into a slightly more comfortable pair of pants. I'll just roll with these pants. Also, shout out to Amara because I got my nails done the day we got back. Oh, that's right. And I don't… I'm not a nails person. She is a nails person. I never know. I don't know what… I don't know what they're called, what's… You know, when they're different shapes. I don't know anything. I don't… And so I texted her. I walked there. I was like, I'm going to make an exercise day out of this. So I walked. It's a couple miles away. And I said… You walked a couple miles? I did. That's… Both ways. That's amazing. Each way. Brooke is not a walker. I was that day. I was like, you know, we're home. I've been… We've been traveling. I'm like, I'm going to… And I know it's more about the cold. I know you don't… Yeah, I spent the cold. You will not walk in the cold. No. I had a… But, you know, we did go to a nice dinner in San Antonio and it was less than a mile away. And Brooke was like, wait, it's 0.8 miles. I was like, yeah, no, we can get a car. It's fine. I had heels on too, I believe. Right? Maybe not. I don't know. But yeah, I don't like being cold. That's… Also, shout out to Greg for putting that. You're doing amazing, sweetie. To Greg for putting that dinner together. That was nice. That was a great dinner. It was super fun. Whatever that Pearl Brewery hipster place they got going there, there's some good stuff there. Yeah, it was great. A lot of laughs. A lot of good Kevin Calabro laughs that night, which is always wonderful. It's food for your soul. But yeah, so I said, I go, I'm getting my nails and you have 10 minutes to tell me what color to get. And so she sent me a picture. So I just… I walked in. I was like, can I do this? I was like, literally… What color is that? It's like pink nude? Pink chrome. Pink chrome. Yeah. And so I don't know if they did it exactly like hers or the picture she had, but close enough. You know, I don't care. I'm just… I just want people to like them. Because I don't… I don't know if I like them. I mean, do I like these? I don't know. Do I… I just get them done because… I like them. I think they look good. Thanks. So shout out to her for her help last minute. I was like, you have 10 minutes. Hurry. She sent me a picture right away. Done. That's the kind of help I need from friends because I'm not that kind of girl. Yeah. I don't know that kind of stuff. Yeah. Anyway. Anyway. Let's go do it for this edition of The Blizzard Balcony presented by Spirit Mountain Casino. Spirit Mountain. Elevate your game. Highway 18. Grand Ronde. Picture me. Billboard of Brooklyn. Damien Lillard. Toyota. Shout out. Minor shout out. We're getting all the shout outs. Yeah. Actually, they don't get one because they… Yeah. They don't get one. They got to come with a Toyota first for Casey before. Okay. Yeah. I'll tell them. Yeah. I know Tristan got one, but I'm not Tristan. Yeah. Well, just let me know. Yeah. I'll hook it up. I will do my best. My car is running pretty well still. Okay. I think it needs an oil change, but… You probably should know that. I came as close as I think I've ever come to running out of gas going to practice yesterday. I drove all the way from Portland to Tualatin with the gas light on. Oh, wow. I was parallel parking at the practice facility. I could feel my car starting to… Oh, what a nightmare. And so then I went to the Space Age, which I usually try to get gas somewhere where you can get a discount. So like whatever, Fred Meyer Point thing. Yeah. It was a shell station as I understand it. But I didn't feel like I could go far enough. And it took… It's a 12-gallon tank. It took 11.95 gallons. So like it was literally as close as I've ever come. Living on the edge. Yeah. It was kind of the same idea with you. I think like going for a walk, I was like, you know what? I'm home. Like, I'm going to let it ride. I also wanted to go to Jamba first before practice. So I was like, if I'd stop for gas, I'm not going to have time to get a free Jamba, which is my first free Jamba of the year. And so I chose Jamba. I was like, hey, if the car breaks down… It's a good call. At least you got your Jamba. A delicious Jamba juice too. So shout out to Jamba, but mostly shout out to our friends at Bird and Mount Casino. Thank you so much for coming on as sponsors. We really appreciate it. We're going to see you guys soon.
